Progressive Rummy

Contract Rummy or Combination rummy, Deuces Wild Rummy, Joker Rummy and Phase 10 It is a game of 3-8 players and has developed from Gin Rummy. The game uses multiple decks of 54 cards and jokers are treated as wild cards. In addition to, or instead of, the rules for Contract Rummy the following items are relevant for 12-Step Rummy. Players may draw either the top card from the stock pile or the top card from the discard pile, but 1 card must be picked up before commencing play and 1 card must be discarded at the end of his or her turn.

Use 2 (4 Players) or 3 (6 Players) decks of cards + jokers.
Deal 11 cards per player per hand.
Set = 3 of a kind
Run = 4 cards in same suit in order (Ace may be high or lower in run)

Player with turn has first choice of top card on discard pile. If he does not want
that card, the rest of the players may choose to take (or buy) it before he draws a card from the stack.
Player to his left has second choice then on around the table. If other than player with turn takes
top card in discard pile, he must take one more card from stack and does not discard.
Max 3 buys or 17 cards in hand.
Once you lay down, there are no more buys.

Progressive Rummy Rules And Scoring

To lay down by hand, you need:

  • 1st hand: 2 sets
  • 2nd hand: 1 set + 1 run
  • 3rd hand: 2 runs
  • 4th hand: 3 sets
  • 5th hand: 2 sets + 1 run
  • 6th hand: 2 runs + 1 set
  • 7th hand: 3 runs

Progressive Rummy Hands

You may only lay down the number sets or runs called out in the hand, but after
you lay down you may play on your or other players runs or sets.
First player discarding his last card wins the round. Jokers can be picked up
from any run or set on the table and replaced with correct card during your turn if you are down.

Card values for score:

  • Number cards = face value
  • Face cards = 10
  • Aces = 15
  • Jokers = 25
  • At the end, lower score wins the pot
